Sage L50 Case Study

The Tyneside Cinema

Founded in 1976, Newcastle upon Tyne's Tyneside Cinema is one of the most renowned regional film theatres in the UK.

The cinema employs 35 people and has a turnover of almost a million pounds and caters for 90,000 attendees a year.

The careful management of its finances is a vital part of maintaining the business's success, and the Tyneside Cinema uses Sage software for both its accounts and its payroll functions.

The cinema has seen extensive development over the last few years, and as the business has expanded it outgrew the existing software.

When the cinema's computer network was recently enhanced, Gillian Wood, director of Finance and Operations, took this as an opportunity to upgrade the existing Sage package to Sage Line 50.

She comments, "I find Sage products simple to use. They're particularly valuable when it comes to management reports - Line 50 allows us to show our results in a way the management team can digest."

The cinema currently uses Sage for its daily accounting, and has a separate box-office system running alongside it.

"Sage has a good profile, particularly among smaller businesses, and with very good reason. I find that Sage Line 50 is not only a cost-effective accounting solution but is also very user-friendly," adds Gillian.

"The cinema provides a valuable cultural venue for people in the Newcastle area - one that we know is appreciated.

"As we enter a new and exciting period of re-development, I am confident our business will continue to flourish, so I plan to continue using Sage accounting and payroll packages at Tyneside Cinema for the foreseeable future."
