The Client

Bro Myrddin is a charitable not for profit Housing Association, led by a board of 12 volunteers, providing housing across Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. They improve and maintain circa.800 homes and provide a range of housing services to their residents and other stakeholders.

Bro Myrddin's residents include single people and families, young and older people with homes ranging from individual flats and houses to sheltered housing schemes and people with specialist care needs.

The Brief

Following an IT infrastructure review at Bro Myrddin and discussions with the onsite IT Manager, it was clear that new enhancements and uplifts in technology would help deliver substancial benefits to the user base and stakeholders. A key requisite was allowing the user base to "Hot Desk" and provide a system that would be flexible enough to cope with changing demands for remote working whilst being resilient enough to provide support to over 215 end users.

The Solution

Following consideration of a variation of technologies, CSG provided a solution for Microsoft Hosted Exchange, where the critical e-mail services moved to the CSG Data Centre for Continuity and Disaster Recovery purposes. In the event of a site loss or systems failure, e-mail services would be available and accessible via any device with an internet connection.

In order to streamline support and deliver "Hot Desking" functionality, CSG recommended a virtual desktop solution be provisioned with 2 x high performance HP DL380 servers which would be load balanced. Should there be a server failure, continuity of services would remain. This also meant that the exisiting legacy desktops would be decommissioned and replaced with thin client terminals requiring effortless management and maintenance. All required changes are therefore applied once to the terminal server farm and automatically rolled out to the user base.

The Result

The Cloud and Virtulisation solution allowed Bro Myrddin's IT Manager to utilise a system that was easier to maintain and support ongoing. There is continuous on going supprt from CSG where the network is monitored on a 24/7/365 basis. The virtual desktop deployment provided a substantial elevation in performance with a faster and more resilient infrastructure that would remain reliable should the worst happen.

Implementation of Cloud and Remote Desktop services has allowed Bro Myrddin to take advantage of quicker timeframes to deploy additional desktop sessions, cost savings on power usage across the board and the knowledge that the internal systems are robust enough to cope with failure should this occur. Coupled with enhanced user productivity and peace of mind knowing that the IT systems are protected by industry leading technology, Bro Myrddin are quite simply, in safe hands.
