BACSTEL-IP is the platform for the future of automated payments

It is more than an upgrade of the old BACSTEL service, it is a totally new delivery channel that gives you more control, easier management of your processing - and a far faster service all round.

BACS has always operated a continuous improvement programme in order to maintain service, reliability and efficiency. BACS is currently undertaking a major technology renewal programme called NewBACS to meet the rapidly growing demand for even more efficient electronic payment services, including salary payments and Direct Debit collections.  

Implementation of the programme and its security features will allow you to stay at the forefront of the payments industry and meet future expected demand for electronic payment services. The technology renewal programme is being introduced in four phases, the first of which included an upgrade of the old telecoms based customer delivery channel BACSTEL.  

The new delivery channel, which provides BACS customers with a secure, and direct online telecommunications access to BACS, is called BACSTEL-IP.  Based on Internet protocols and using the latest Public Key Infrastrucutre (PKI) technologies for the highest level of security, BACSTEL-IP offers a reliable and cost-effective way of accessing the BACS payment services.  

BACSTEL-IP provides the following:

• Electronic reporting enables automation of paper-based processes, removing paper and saving time and money
• Faster payment confirmation - input reports are electronically provided within 3-4 hours of a submission on input day
• Heightened levels of security - the use of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) creates a multi-layered security platform providing businesses with the highest level of security in payment submissions
• Increased control - monitor progress of payments on line, maintain own contact details in real time, payment history at submission / file level on line
• Higher transmission speeds can be reached
• Existing infrastructure can be utilised, keeping costs to a minimum
• All connections are brought together in a single format, streamlining previous processes and systems. BACSTEL-IP brings together all BACS submission information, electronic reports, messaging services and also the collection of unpaid and unapplied items into a single secure IP connection
• Approved software only - BACS approves all BACSTEL-IP software before it reaches the marketplace, so users are reassured that the software has surpassed set quality standards.
