Intel Xeon server technology helps Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice cut costs even further…
Computer Services Group was recently asked by Ty Hafan, the Children’s Hospice in Wales, to innovate a way to match their existing computers, many of which had been donated.
Ty Hafan, as a charity, always strives to ensure that the maximum proportion of donations and fund-raising income is targeted directly towards funding the annual £2m Children’s Hospice running costs. To ensure that Ty Hafan could continue to use its many donated PCs, CSG designed an operating platform based upon Intel Xeon server technology, allowing Ty Hafan to run the upgraded applications at Pentium 4 speeds even on the Pentium 2 computers and very little memory or hard disk space.
A Xeon-powered server coupled with Microsoft Terminal Server technology saved the charity from having to replace 35 computers throughout the organisation. The cost saving for the charity was tremendous and with all the software applications being run from a state of the art Xeon-based server, the savings will continue, as they will no longer need to replace any of the existing computers.
“We dislike spending money on anything other than the families and children we serve. Now we can take even more advantage of our supporter’s kind gifts whilst ensuring that we maintain efficiency and keep up with the requirements of developing technology – thanks very much to CSG”
