CSG’s apprenticeship scheme is more than just a training program; it’s a gateway to a fulfilling career in IT. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Jason and Taylor, two apprentices who shared their experiences and insights about working at CSG.

Jason, who joined CSG straight out of school, expressed his initial concerns about entering the workforce. “I haven’t worked anywhere before CSG. I was worried that it was going to be stressful a new job in the real world, but it’s been perfect,” he said.
The welcoming approach at CSG, especially from mentors like Richard, has made a significant difference. “Richard makes sure that we are supported so that we can learn know how to do things well,” Jason added.
The day-to-day activities for apprentices at CSG are diverse and engaging. They spend time in the workshop, take calls, and learn how to interact with customers. “We alternate every week,” Jason explained. This variety ensures that apprentices gain a well-rounded experience, from technical skills to customer service.
One of the standouts features of the apprenticeship scheme is the support for personal development. Jason shared his journey of discovering his passion for IT: “Halfway through my A levels, I was thinking I wasn’t going to get a job with the subjects I chose. I realised my hobby was building computers, and I knew the base level technical knowledge. I could see myself in 10 years doing repairs and sorting tickets”. CSG offered him a secure position where he could build and increase his knowledge which allowed Jason to explore his passion for IT in more depth.
Taylor echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the benefits of the apprenticeship. “This apprenticeship is perfect to show that I have learnt a full-rounded viewpoint on IT. The experience has made it so that when I go for jobs in IT and get asked difficult questions, I know that I can confidently answer,” Taylor said.
The exposure to various companies through CSG has also been invaluable to the two apprenticeships. “It’s useful that you get to know so many companies working here. If you then want to go for a job after our apprenticeship, employers will know that we’ve worked with reputable companies,” Taylor noted.
CSG’s trust in our apprentices is evident as they are given responsibilities like speaking to customers on their own, which helps build self-esteem. The company also provides flexibility and support for college work, ensuring that apprentices can balance their studies and work effectively.
CSG’s apprenticeship has significantly enhanced Jason and Taylor’s cyber security knowledge, equipping them with the skills and expertise necessary to manage internet and cyber issues both in their personal lives and in prestigious roles, such as future governmental positions that demand such proficiency.
