Cyber threats in 2026 are continuing to give businesses strain and pressure with UK organisations of all sizes – charities, community groups, SMEs and social enterprises – are increasingly being the target from cyber criminals both within the UK and overseas. That’s why we’re partnering with Social Farms & Gardens for an exclusive webinar for their members to ask the question:
Are you cyber secure?
This session will help you understand the biggest cyber risks facing organisations right now and what practical steps you can take to defend against them.
What you’re up against in 2026
1. AI‑accelerated attacks
Attackers in 2026 are using AI as a force multiplier, enabling them to weaponise vulnerabilities faster, automate attack campaigns and create more convincing social‑engineering attempts such as deepfake‑driven BEC attacks.
AI is now helping even low‑skilled threat actors operate at speeds previously limited to advanced cybercriminals.
2. Identity-based attacks are the #1 entry point
Microsoft’s 2026 guidance highlights that attackers are “no longer breaking in, they’re logging in.” Compromised identities remain the most consistently exploited weakness across cloud and hybrid environments.
Phishing‑resistant MFA and the highest-level of identity protection are now considered non‑negotiable for any organisation.
3. Ransomware remains one of the most critical threats
Datto warns that ransomware continues to be one of the most damaging cyber risks facing organisations of all sizes. Social engineering and unpatched vulnerabilities remain the most common pathways to compromise.
Datto emphasises that even paying ransom does not guarantee data recovery, making strong backups and BCDR essential.
4. Human fatigue & operational burnout
Sophos identifies a rising hidden risk in 2026: operational burnout. As automation accelerates workloads, defenders struggle to keep pace, creating blind spots and increased vulnerability.
This widening gap between automation and human oversight increases the chances of misconfigurations and delayed responses, both of which attackers exploit.
5. Cloud exposure & attack surface growth
Unpatched services, misconfigured cloud assets and weak partner access continue to be major causes of breaches. Security teams must aggressively inventory their full attack surface, including vendors, MSPs and cloud services.
