Yesterday, the CSG team had the pleasure of attending St Teilo’s Church in Wales High School’s Careers Day – a brilliant event that brought together employers from across Wales to help students explore their next steps in education, training and work. For us, it was a fantastic opportunity to inspire young people who are beginning to shape their future in the world of technology.

CSG Apprenticeships: a legacy since 1985
Apprenticeships are a part of our DNA. Since first opening our doors in 1985, we’ve championed vocational routes into IT, telecoms, computing and cyber security. Over the decades, we’ve supported apprentices who have gone on to become full‑time engineers, senior specialists and even move into high‑impact roles such as with South Wales Police.
Apprenticeships have always been vital to our growth as a business, and to Wales’ digital skills pipeline.
Why Apprenticeships in IT and Cyber matter more than ever
Across the UK and Wales the value of apprenticeship routes into digital and cyber careers continues to grow.
- Higher‑level apprenticeships [Levels 6 & 7], including digital and cyber pathways, have increased by 20.4% this academic year, highlighting the rising demand for advanced technical skills and the strong employability of learners following this route [CyberFirst].
This growth reflects what we see every day at CSG: motivated learners, practical skills development, and a clear pathway into a future‑proof industry.

Nothing demonstrates the value of our programme better than the experiences of our current apprentices. Here are just a few of the insights they shared:
“I hadn’t worked anywhere before CSG. I was worried that starting a new job would be stressful, but it’s been perfect.” – Jason, current CSG Apprentice
“Halfway through my A‑levels, I wasn’t sure what career I’d end up in. I realised my hobby was building computers and that I had the base technical knowledge, CSG helped turn that into a real career.” – Harry, current CSG Apprentice
These stories perfectly capture the confidence, capability and progression that high‑quality apprenticeships helps provide to young people.
Supporting students through CyberFirst
As a proud CyberFirst Wales Ambassador, CSG is deeply committed to helping students understand the pathways available in technology and cyber security. Yesterday, we spent time answering questions about:
- What qualifications are needed to apply
- What a day‑to‑day role in IT or cyber really looks like
- How apprenticeships open doors to professional certifications, hands‑on experience and long‑term careers
Our goal is simple: help young people realise that a passion for tech [even if it begins as a hobby!] can genuinely become a successful career.
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Adrian Cole and the team at Careers Wales for coordinating our attendance and supporting us throughout the day. It was a fantastic event and we were delighted to be part of it.
