What’s new in Microsoft Teams: November 2025

Microsoft Teams continues to make significant changes to remain the central hub for collaboration, and November 2025 brings a wave of updates focused on AI integration, usability improvements and meeting experiences. Here’s a roundup of the most significant changes you need to know.

1. Copilot gets smarter with GPT-5

Microsoft 365 Copilot now makes the most out of GPT-5 to deliver faster and more accurate responses, whilst introducing advanced features like:

  • Session persistence: Copilot remembers context across sessions for smoother workflows
  • AI video generation: you can now create short video summaries from meeting transcripts or documents
  • Shared mailbox support: this is particularly ideal for teams managing group communications

2. Audio-only meeting recording

A new privacy-conscious option allows meetings to be recorded without video or screen sharing. This is perfect for sensitive discussions or bandwidth-limited environments.

3. Image search in Teams

Coming soon: the global search bar will support image-based searches. Users can filter and browse screenshots, whiteboard photos, and other visuals in a new carousel view. Expected rollout: December 2025.

4. Shared channel apps

Teams now supports adding apps to shared channels, aligning them with standard channels and expanding collaboration options for cross-functional teams.

5. Settings search

Navigating Teams settings just got easier with a quick search tool for settings, rolling out this month.

6. 1080p video for Town Halls

For Teams premium users, Town Hall meetings will soon support full HD (1080p) video at 4 Mbps bitrate, enhancing large-scale presentations. Rollout begins in December.

7. Device flexibility on iPad

Teams on iPad now lets users choose external microphones, speakers, and cameras directly from the pre-join screen or during meetings, there is now no need to dive into system settings.

8. Location awareness (preview)

A controversial update in preview: Teams can automatically update your status to In the Office when connected to corporate Wi-Fi or desk hardware. Admins must enable this feature, and users will need to opt in. Full release expected in December.

9. Teams returns to Microsoft 365 suites

After regulatory changes, Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites once again include Teams as an option starting November 1, giving organisations more flexibility in licensing.

These enhancements reflect Microsoft’s push toward AI-driven productivity, better hybrid meeting experiences, and improved collaboration tools. Whether you’re hosting a global Town Hall or managing day-to-day team chats, these features aim to make Teams smarter, faster and more adaptable.

Pro tip for admins: review your organisation’s settings for location tracking and prepare for upcoming changes like image search and HD video in Town Halls.
