Private Cloud and Managed IT Services to 25 officesVISIT SITE
Following an IT infrastructure review at Bro Myrddin and discussions with the onsite IT Manager, due a collaboration project with a large welsh charity, a solution was required to enhance the IT solution in place, improve performance and provide redundancy at the core.
Helpdesk services were required to the 215 + staff across 25 offices and important proactive remote monitoring, management and managed services provision to ensure the health of the IT systems was paramount.
Following consideration of a variation of technologies, CSG recommended a private cloud infrastructure that would be located within a tier 3 data centre. A bleeding edge HP virtual stack consisting of 3 x HP performance virtual hosts, VMWare virtualisation, HP MSA 2040 SAN with a hybrid storage of SSD and SAS discs for optimum performance. The client was migrated from a legacy version of Citrix to a MS Remote Desktop Services farm with mulitple terminal servers for redundancy, performance and delivery of the core applications and data to over 200 staff.
The core IT systems are protected via Veeam Backup & Replication back to the head office to DR IT equipment to provide recovery options should there be an outage or hardware failure at the data centre.
Key security services were deployed through a data centre located Sophos XG appliance and Sophos Central Security Suite integrated via Sophos "Heart Beat" technology. This solution would provide two factor authentication, protection against emerging threats such as malware, ransomware and explopit kit attacks through Sophos Intercept X.
The data centre solution allowed Bro Myrddin's IT Manager to use a system that was easier to maintain and support ongoing which has resulted in large cost reductions for ongoing maintenance overhead of the legacy Citrix and system. There is a vital managed support service from CSG where the network is monitored on a 24/7/365 basis and the 200+ are supported via a 1st, 2nd and 3rd line tiered helpdesk system. The virtual desktop deployment provided a substantial elevation in performance with a faster and more resilient 10GB storage infrastructure that would remain reliable should the worst happen. Should there be a hardware failure, there is redundnacy at the core which was very important to the stakeholders.
The implementation of the terminal server environment has allowed Bro Myrddin to take advantage of quicker timeframes to deploy additional desktop sessions, cost savings on power usage across the board and the knowledge that the internal systems are robust enough to cope with failure should this occur. Coupled with enhanced user productivity and peace of mind knowing that the IT systems are protected by industry leading backup & replication technology, Bro Myrddin are quite simply, in safe hands.
