The Client

Dow Corning is a global manufacturer of silicon-based materials. Their manufacturing plant in the coastal town of Barry, South Wales employs around 600 people. Dow Corning has strong links with Barry and is a major contributor to the area’s economy. Silicone production started in Barry in 1952 then a major expansion programme in the late 1990's with a £200m investment made the Barry site one of the most advanced silicon-based materials manufacturing facilities not just in Europe but in the world. Over the decades Dow Corning’s site at Barry has gained multiple awards that reflect a focus on excellence in health and safety; employment and corporate social responsibility practices.

The Brief

Dow Corning's Barry site faced its own challenges supporting its ever growing IT user base and the demands a
global company such as Dow Corning puts on the resources of the local IT Support Desk.
It was decided therefore to outsource the additional IT resource however this came with its own set of challenges. 

CSG already supplied Dow Corning with Resident IT Staff and has done for many years and were asked if we could assist.

The Solution

CSG provide a small Specialist Resident IT support team to assist in the overall IT Support of the Barry site. Working as part of the global IT Support Desk it is imperative that continuity of correct staffing levels are maintained throughout. CSG achieved this by introducing Shadow Specialist Engineers for each of our Resident Support Specialists already based on site. This assures continuity in the event of any absence of CSG's Specialist Resident Support team including on call and out of hours support services.

The Result

CSG have created a cost effective solution to a critical IT demand. Our specialist IT Support team are embedded within the frame work of the Barry site IT Support Desk and guarantee continuity of specialist engineers through the introduction of a shadow workforce even 24/7/365 on call duty.
