Sector: Construction

Adexsi UK is part of the Adexsi group, a strongly recognised authority in the design, manufacture and installation of specialist ventilation equipment and industrial ventilation, smoke control and environmental control systems.

CSG work closely with Adexsi’s 50 IT users daily, providing support for their IT requirements that cannot be handled internally.

“We value our partnership with CSG and the service that they provide to us daily.  We consider them an extension of our team.” – Adexsi UK.

The challenge

Adexsi UK has experienced significant growth which has driven the requirement for security standards to increase as they become more well known in the industry.

The construction industry has suffered from an increase of cyber attacks that are designed to target the weakest sources, including an increase in ransomware attacks, which led to Adexsi sourcing out a cyber security specialist they do not want to fall victim.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional for construction firms. With the rise of digital tools, IoT devices and cloud-based collaboration, the industry has become a prime target for cyberattacks. Companies must prioritise cyber resilience to protect their operations, data and reputation.” – SecurityHQ, construction threat landscape report 2024.

CSG value keeping our customers up to date regularly with the latest information and providing education (through webinars, events and one-on-one meetings) around information security policies.

“We appreciate CSG’s events and have attended their in person events which was really great to help raise awareness and education for the importance of internet security.”

The continued increase of interconnected devices and smart systems becoming more dominant has led to the HVAC industry, increasing the risk of ransomware attacks, where cyber criminals target HVAC companies to encrypt critical systems and demand payment, disrupting operations and causing financial damage.

Adexsi work with a number of different organisations who require Cyber Essentials for in order to work with contractors. Adexsi achieving this certification means that they have proven to current and future stakeholders that their overall security measures are in line with best practices.

The solutions

Introduction of cyber security practices

Multi-factor authentication across all cloud platforms to verify user access

“Adexsi has a lot of remote workers, majority of employees even pre covid are remote, so we need good IT support.”

Implementing multi-factor authentication across all cloud platforms that Adexsi use has significantly reduced their risk of a data breach by requiring users to verify their identity each time they access company systems. By verifying user access at every entry point, Adexsi strengthens its overall cyber resilience and protects sensitive data from increasingly sophisticated threats.

Device encryption deployed against all company laptops to protect devices against loss/theft

Mistakes can happen in any workplace – laptops may be misplaced, lost or even stolen, especially with a remote workforce and frequent travel between sites.

“Knowing we have CSG there gives us peace of mind. Their response times are so good, whenever I have contacted CSG with a priority matter, CSG looks at it instantly and we know that we will be listened to.”

By deploying device encryption across all company laptops, we have helped Adexsi ensure that, even if a device falls into the wrong hands, their sensitive business data remains protected and inaccessible to unauthorised parties. This layer of security provides invaluable peace of mind, protecting both company and client information against breaches and reinforcing Adexsi’s commitment to operating within a zero trust infrastructure.

Mobile Device Management to govern how devices can connect to the cloud environment

Mobile device management has led to Adexsi knowing that that only authorised and compliant devices can access their cloud environment. This solution enforces security policies such as device encryption, password requirements, and conditional access, granting or restricting entry to sensitive company resources based on real-time risk assessments.

With MDM Adexsi gains centralised visibility and control over mobile endpoints, mitigating the risks associated with remote work and diverse device usage. As a result, the company has protected its cloud infrastructure against unauthorised access and potential data breaches, allowing employees the flexibility to work securely from any location without compromising on protection.

Introduction of Information Security Policy to complement the newly deployed security services

Following the deployment of advanced security services by CSG, Adexsi recognised the necessity of introducing a information security policy. This policy serves as a crucial framework, guiding team members through the new security protocols and outlining clear expectations for secure behaviour.

By providing detailed guidance on how to comply with enhanced requirements, the policy ensures that every member of the Adexsi team is empowered to maintain best practices, protecting sensitive data and supporting the full effectiveness of the company’s cyber defences.

Cyber essentials

CSG managed the entire cyber essentials certification process in full, answering all technical questions and working directly with both end-users and the assessor. This meant that Adexsi could achieve their cyber essentials stress-free.

“We have found the cyber essentials to be very important in our custodial contracts; CE is essential to secure the contracts that demand them.”

Adexsi first achieved the cyber essentials certification in 2023 and the CSG team have supported in successfully renewing the certification each year, emphasising Adexsi’s dedication to their cyber security posture.

Achieving the certification has allowed Adexsi to secure more contracts and has put them above their competitors.

The above areas have all been blended into the IT managed services arrangement that has been provided to Adexsi for the past 10+ years.

“It helps Adexsi staff sleep at night knowing we have reliable backups in place, and we continually look to CSG for updates and guidance to further strengthen our backup processes. Their deep expertise in our industry is invaluable, unlike a general IT company, CSG provides us with engineers who genuinely understand our environment and the challenges we face, ensuring that issues are resolved quickly and effectively.”
