Businesses are always looking for ways to improve security, especially when it comes to their employees. With more staff now able to use their personal devices for work, two-factor authentication is a must when it comes to keeping data safe.

What is it?

Two-factor authentication is additional security for your mobile workforce. It protects against vulnerabilities that are exploited by a traditional one password approach.

How does it work?

To gain access to a system, users have to confirm their identity with two individual codes. One could be a password and the other could be a code generated by an authentication app. Also, it could be a code sent to a set phone number or email. Either way, the user has to enter two pieces of correct information in order to log in. This is why it is important to keep your contact details up-to-date; in case you need your email or phone number for your code.

Why use it?

When logging in to some apps, they advise you to turn on two-factor authentication. This is because it makes it harder for someone to guess your password and gain access to your account. By switching it on, staff have to enter two codes in order to gain access to something. If a device is stolen, without the correct app, number or email, the thief won’t be getting in any time soon and your data is safe.
