Microsoft Teams update will introduce a new feature that will allow free users to participate in work meetings with their personal account

Starting in February, a Microsoft Teams update will introduce a new feature that will allow free users to participate in work meetings with their personal account directly from the Teams client.

Main Points:

  • Microsoft Teams is introducing a new functionality that allows users with personal Microsoft accounts to join work meetings directly through the desktop app
  • Free users will now have the ability to access chat even after the conclusion of the meeting
  • Organisations will retain control over chats and meetings federation involving free users

Microsoft Teams is receiving an update that enables users with personal Microsoft accounts (MSA) to seamlessly join work meetings directly from the Teams desktop app, or vice versa. This eliminates the current necessity for free users to access meetings as anonymous guests through a web browser, ensuring ongoing access to chats even after the meeting concludes.

Presently, Microsoft Teams (free) users are required to join work meetings as anonymous guests via a web browser. Additionally, these participants are excluded from the chat once the Teams meeting concludes.

“Once this feature is made available, users of Microsoft Teams (Free) will be able to join Teams for work (or school) meetings in one click, they no longer will be redirected to browser, asked to fill in their name/surname and they will be able to continue collaboration with meeting organiser and other participants via meeting chat after the meeting,” Microsoft explained.
